Before applying for the Evans Scholarship, what do you know about it? The Evans Scholar Foundation is a charitable trust.

It provides undergraduate scholarships for deserving caddies. This is a concept originated by Charles “Chick” Evans Jr. and is known as the Evans Scholar Program. The Western Golf Association oversees the Evans Scholar Foundation.

The first Evans Scholarship House was established at Northwestern University in 1940. Now, 840 Evans Scholars are enrolled at over 19 universities. And 14 universities have Evans Scholarship Houses.

Also, Evans Scholars from all over the nation have a cumulative GPA of 3.25 and a graduation rate of 92 per cent!

In the state of Colorado, there are currently 20 different golf clubs that offer caddie programs to their members!

What You Should Know about the Evans Scholarship

The Evans Scholarship is a full tuition and housing college scholarship. And it is for high-achieving caddies with limited financial means.

However, to qualify, caddies must meet the requirements of having a strong caddie record. Also, they must have excellent academics. And they must demonstrate financial need and outstanding character.

Scholarship applications are accepted at the beginning of an applicant’s senior year of high school, as well as from college freshmen.

What is Expected of You for the Evans Scholarship?

The entire application – including supporting documents like evaluations, recommendation letters, transcripts, test scores, a CSS profile and FAFSA information – is expected to be completed by October 15.

The Scholarship Committee will begin its review when the application is complete. Also, the Committee will interview finalists. And the final selection rests with the Committee.

Basic Evans Scholarship Requirements

Below are the basic eligibility criteria for the Evans Scholarship:

Strong Caddie Record: Applicants must have caddied, regularly and successfully. And this should be for a minimum of two years. Also, they are expected to caddie at their sponsoring club the year they apply for the Scholarship.

Excellent Academics: Applicants must have completed their junior year of high school. And this should be with above a B average in college preparatory courses. However, the ACT and SAT will be optional for 2022 applicants.

October 1: CSS Financial Aid Profile becomes available. Please complete the CSS Profile online and submit it to CSS along with the required fee as soon as possible. The Evans Scholars Foundation CSS code is 0153.

Also, you can file your FAFSA online on October 1. Please submit a copy of your completed FAFSA Federal Student Aid Report. And it should be with the Expected Family Contribution (EFC) number when it becomes available.

October 15: Applications are expected to be completed. This includes all supporting documents (completed CSS Profile, FAFSA Federal Student Aid Report, High School Evaluation, Caddie Evaluation, letters of recommendation, high school transcript and test scores).

April 1: All application decisions are finalized.

Applicants apply directly to the university (ies) for admission. Also, applications should be completed as soon as the regular decision application becomes available for the university.
