About Ron Brown Scholarship
The Ron Brown Scholarship Program (RBSP), established in 1996 by the CAP Charitable Foundation, celebrates the memory of Ronald H. Brown, the late Secretary of Commerce, via a selective, multilayered scholarship and leadership program that emphasizes on academic success.
Students who are currently enrolled in college are not eligible to apply. We require two recommendation letters. Your high school guidance counselor, instructor, or administrator should write at least one of these.
Anyone who knows you well and can speak to your character, leadership abilities, devotion to community service, or academic performance may send the second letter.
This might be someone like an employer, coach, or mentor. It cannot be your mother, father, or guardian.
The Ron Brown Scholar Program’s aim is to develop the next generation of transformative leaders who have a positive influence on their communities and forge new routes in their chosen occupations and professions.
Ron Brown Scholarship Program Eligibility 2022
Applicants who satisfy the following conditions are highly encouraged to apply for the Ron Brown Scholar Program:
1. You must be Black or African-American.
2. Academic excellence is required.
3. Must have outstanding leadership potential.
4. Participation in community service activities is required.
5. Prove your financial necessity.
6. Be a US citizen or have a valid permanent residence visa.
7. At the time of application, you must be a current high school senior.

Ron Brown Scholarship Application Deadlines
The timeline below will help interested applicants plan their application to the Ron Brown Scholar Program (RBSP), as well as crucial dates when eligible applicants will be notified:
August–January:
Interested applicants can start filling out and submitting the RBSP scholarship application.
November 1:
Interested individuals who submit their applications by November 1st will be considered for the Ron Brown Scholar Program and their contact information will be provided to a select number of other universities and scholarship sources.
Students who apply by this deadline must mark their application with the proper classification.
Applicants must still submit materials to any institutions, universities, or scholarship programs in which they are interested.
January 9:
The Final postmarked deadline in order to be considered for the Ron Brown Scholar Program ONLY.
January – March:
The Program staff reviews applications.
Mid-February:
Semi-finalists are notified.
Early March:
Finalists are informed and invited to attend a weekend selection process in Washington, D.C. at the Ron Brown Scholar Program’s cost.
Members of the RBSP National Selection Committee interview finalists, and they are expected to participate in a variety of activities during the weekend.
The scholarship recipients are chosen based on their application documents, interviews, and participation in weekend activities.
April 1:
The competition’s winners will be notified.
Scholarship Conditions
Ron Brown scholarships can be used to complement financial help provided by a student’s intended institution or university.
The scholarship may cover tuition, fees, books, accommodation and board, computers, health insurance, study abroad, and other college-related expenditures.
